Anton Chapman
Chapman finds the natural world to be immensely meaningful; As a consequence the paintings are intended to be informed by pervasiveness, the strangeness and complexities of nature. The interest extends beyond superficial recording of phenomena of landscape and human form, into a personal dialogue, and painterly process.
Building and paring back layers reveal remnants and shadows of previous form. Tensions and conceptions are formulated; this reflects an engagement with expressive power of the unconscious eye.
