Ruth Cole

Ruth Cole lives in coastal West Auckland. She has won numerous awards for her paintings and has exhibited widely. While she initially painted in an expressionist style she now describes her work as 'painterly realism'. She sees this as being in the spirit of earlier New Zealand landscape painters such as Fristrom, Robert Johnson and Frances Hunt. She finds challenge and fulfilment in capturing the shifts of light and weather across the landscape and in dynamic forms.
