Sylvia Siddell
Sylvia Siddell was born in the year 1941 in Auckland. Siddell has exhibited regularly throughout New Zealand since 1975 as well as Australia and Spain. Her work is represented in many public and private collections both nationally and internationally.
She takes inspiration for her work from her immediate environment, her work depicts domestic scenes which she infuses with her imagination, reflecting the joys, struggles, sorrows and frustrations of daily existence.
1983 Siddell was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II arts Council grant to study print making. In 1994 the Auckland City Art Gallery displayed a retrospective exhibition of her work 1983-1994 titled ‘Slaughtered Innocents’.
In 2002 Sylvia Siddell was appointed an Officer New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in recognition of her services to painting.
